Majority of the Somalians on the coastal strip favor sea pirates as they think they are saving sea from poisnous material but also saving marine lives.The pirates also say in their defense that in the absence of coast guards they they are taking care of Somalian sea borders. They say that as the our people fell prey to many diseases due the poisnous materials thrown by the industrial states , we are right to get fine from them through their looting their ships or making their people hostages for ransom. They have named their groups according to their national institutions as " National Volunteer Coastal Guards".
It may be reminded that the the coastal strip of Somalia is the longest in the African Continent, which is 3026 kn long. The north eastern part of this coastal strip is considered the most dangerous one regarding the piracy. It is the area where the semi-independent state of Somalia Puntland is situated.It the highest area of the african continent and is called Horn Of Africa as its shape is like a horn The shipping companies term this area as the center of sea pirates.
It is worth mentioning here that cargo ships traveling through Indian ans Arabian Ocean enter Gulf of Eden in Somalia at Horn of Africa. After Eden gulf their next destination is Red Sea,and after passing Red Sea ships enter the Suez canal. At the end of journey through Suez Canal and entering Mutawasit sea they touch the land of Europe. However, before reaching to Europe the ship have to pass through 200 nautical miles of lawless sea of Somalia. .
