The Takabisha ride at Japan's Fuji-Q Highland Amusement Park has set a new record as the steepest rollercoaster of the world. A group of local thrill seekers were invited to take part voluntarily in the first public test of the ride on Friday and were treated to beautiful views of Mount Fuji on the way up.
But it was a different story after the ride reached its highest point and began its breathtaking 141ft vertical freefall at 121 degrees. Park owners spent £23 million on Takabisha, which also features seven stomach-turning twists, to ensure it claimed the record.
Anyone wanting to test their mettle on Takabisha will have to wait until its official opening on July 16th for their 112 seconds of hair-raising fun.
